Application Sharing

Via this technology two people can share applications and work on documents together. The shared application is seen by both users, but only the person that has control of the Application sharing can affect it. And the person who has control of the Application sharing can pass the control to another user to affect the application.

As with all communication features of CallSite the Application Sharing is launched by one user and he decides who has the control of the Application sharing.

The button for launching the Application Sharing is located on the top right corner of the main chat window, designated by the Globe symbol. You can also see what each button does by holding your mouse over the button, at which time a little yellow bubble will indicate to you the function of that button.

Shared area and controls

When the application sharing is launched, a default sized transparent window (with Red borders) will open up on the desktop of the person who has control of the application sharing and has launched it. This is the shared area where the meeting attendee will see the application being shared. At the same time, the other meeting attendee will have a related window open up on his side, through which he can see the application being shared, which he can resize to the size they want.

The person who has control of the application sharing, will also have the Remote control panel, through which he will control the Application Sharing.

Application Sharing List & Control

To select an Application to share, the person who has control of the App Share may click on the "Share Application" button to open the List of Applications that are open on the person's desktop. He can then select from this list the application that he want to share which will then move to the "Red bordered" area at which time meeting attendee will be able to see the application and all that is done on this application.

The size of the Application sharing area, the "Red bordered" window, can be easily adjusted by dragging the corners of this window with the mouse.

To pass the control of the Application that you are sharing from your desktop, just click on the "Give Control" at which time the control of the Application on your desktop will pass to him. To take the control back just click on "Take Control" at which time the control will return to you.

Preferences settings window

Under certain unusual conditions you may not be able to adjust the size of the App Sharing window by dragging it via your mouse, in such cases you can use the Preferences window to set the size of the App Sharing area. To be exact: sometimes there can be different screen resolution between users which can cause problems. To address this the Preferences settings window will allow the controller of the Application Sharing to resize the Shared area which will make it then same viewable on all users screens.

Example:
Person controlling the Application Sharing has screen resolution of 1024x768 and 1st user has resolution of 1024x768, but 2nd user has only 800x600. Controller can then use the Set preferences window to resize the Shared area to the exact value of 750x550 and can thus be sure that it is viewable on all users screens without scroll bars.

Give and take control & final notes

PLEASE NOTE: If the Application Sharing shared area covers your desktop, then the other party that is given the control to, will be able to literally control your desktop (your PC), so be very careful about this.

If you need to take back the control of the Application Sharing, you can just click on the "Take control" button on the Remote control panel (or press the keys CTRL+Q) and the other party won't be able to perform in the shared area anymore instantly.

To finish and close the application sharing, click on the Close button in the Remote control panel.
